Day 18 Great Things Require Greater Commitment

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me." Matthew 10:37-38

Greater things require following Christ, and following Him requires greater commitment. Jesus gave us a standard for our commitment to following Him. Jesus tells us in the passage in Matthew that it MUST exceed even the commitment to our own family, such as our father, mother, son, or daughter.

Who would willingly betray or hurt their father or mother?

Who would freely sacrifice their own son or daughter?

Yet, our commitment to Jesus has to exceed even the strongest of family relationships. The path to greater things comes with greater commitment.
Think about your closest family relationships. What level of commitment is required for these relationships? What types of sacrifices are needed to maintain these relationships? How can your loyalty to Christ exceed these relationships?
Pray—Ask God to deepen your level of commitment to follow Him fully.
